Install Gplex Extended

Chrome Extension: 7.2.5 (3.1 MB, 6 downloads), for Chrome, Edge, Brave and Opera. Unzip it, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked and choose the unzipped folder (keep the folder: the browser runs the extension from it).
No userscript manager needed. If you have Gplex in Tampermonkey, turn it off there first.

Userscript

The userscript, 7.2.5 - 8.0 MB - September 30, 2026 - 1,302 downloads in all. It needs a userscript manager: Tampermonkey or Violentmonkey, from your browser's add-on store. Your userscript manager opens an install page: click Install. Chrome 138 and later: open Tampermonkey's details in the extensions page and turn on Allow User Scripts, or no userscript will run at all.

Firefox XPI (Unsigned Beta)

The newest add-on, 7.2.5 (3.1 MB, 9 downloads), not signed by Mozilla yet: install it in Firefox ESR, Developer Edition or Nightly with xpinstall.signatures.required set to false in about:config, or load it in about:debugging (This Firefox, Load Temporary Add-on). Turn Gplex off in Tampermonkey first.

Pick your year

Open google.com. Gplex starts in the 2015 layout; choose another in the settings at google.com/gplex (or from the add-on's toolbar button or the userscript manager's menu: "Go to Gplex settings page").

Updates

The userscript updates itself: your userscript manager checks this site for new versions. For the Firefox add-on and the Chrome extension, download the new version here when one comes out.

Gplex Legacy: for old browsers

Gplex Extended needs a browser from the last few years. Gplex Legacy is the same Gplex, built to run on old browsers such as Firefox 52 ESR, the last Firefox for Windows XP and Vista.

Google sends browsers this old a lighter version of its pages. Gplex Legacy restyles those in every layout: Google Search's home page and results, Images, Videos and News, the Gplex settings page and Google's error pages. Gmail opens in the period's look too. Other Google services may not work at all in browsers this old.

YouTube works too: install the V3 extension (it runs on Firefox 52) and Gplex Extended for YouTube shows YouTube in the layout you pick, as in Gplex Extended.

Download Gplex Legacy 7.2.5

7.9 MB - 12 downloads. Install a userscript manager for your browser first (on Firefox 52, Greasemonkey 3). Don't install Gplex Legacy and Gplex Extended in the same browser.
